In this week's episode in this ongoing podcast exploring the case against the West Memphis 3 killers, Gary Meece reviews press coverage of the case and determines that the so-called Satanic Panic involved in the case stemmed from the confession of Jessie Misskelley and Damien Echols proudly proclaiming his occult beliefs. Prior to the arrests, while there were rumors and local talk of occultism tied to the killings, there was no such media presence. Some press coverage during the trial revealed that jurors and spectators thought the occult angle was unconvincing. An excerpt from "Blood on Black" explains the events that made Damien Echols a prime suspect, and they had nothing to do with black T-shirts, listening to Metallica or having a funny haircut.

I love this podcast!! I was born and raised in Bartlett. I was 13 back in 93 when this happened and I’ve been following the case ever since. It’s nice to hear things from a different perspective.

This was also one thing the police would never have known .About Damien masturbating and coming on the pants/ wiping it on the pants. There was evidence of semen found and Echols requested to have it tested. Many say Miskelley's statement of sexual abuse was wrong and there was zero evidence of rape. But as far as I remember Jesse said Damien masturbated and then wiped the come on the pants.He did not say there was rape. Also only Jesse came up with the bottle ...police did not know about that.

Jesus,take an allergy pill! It might help the cough. When you read the headlines,I felt so sad. I realized for many many years the 3 little boys were totally forgotten and everybody is only talking about poor Damien in jail...forgetting how to eat with a fork..being beaten till pissing blood...then flying into A Volcano to have breakfast in New Zealand and getting cute matching tattoos with Depp...Hello??? What about the boys????

And the coughing isn’t that bad in this one actually. I’ve wondered why you cough so much. Do you have an ongoing illness? If so I’m sorry. But anyone that really wants good information about this will understand and will deal with it. We need people like you. A little coughing is no big deal when we’re talking about revealing one of the biggest hoaxes in criminal justice.

What’s crazy is Bob Ruff spent a long time talking about Echol’s alibi. He actually put forth the Sanders visit as a legitimate alibi!
